ISO: Chinese Beef with Broccoli

Misc.

When I was a girl I had a friend named Paula from Hong Kong. For school lunches she would bring little foil packets containing cold stir-fried beef with broccoli and rice left over from her family's dinner the night before. She would share tidbits of the savory, slightly sweet beef and broccoli with us, her classmates. We all begged for her to share her lunch. I have never forgotten the taste of her lunches and have tried many recipes for Chinese beef with broccoli. None have captured that taste exactly. This was ordinary family fare for Paula's family. Does anyone have any ideas?
