ISO: fried green tomatoes

Could someone please tell me how to cook fried green tomatoes. My husband loves them and we have tomatoe plants and I have absolutely no idea how to make them......also do you have to let the tomatoes sit for an amount of time before cooking them after picking them? I would appreciate any replies I receive!! Thank you!! Julie
