ISO: Pickled Hot Peppers - question

My hubby wants to can HOT banana peppers and he came across your recipe. We are new at this so forgive us if ouor questions sound really stupid! He wants them to be hot when he opens the jar. Could you explain in a step by step driections so we understand what in the heck we are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, once you have the jars packed and ready for the hot bath, how much water do you put the jars in? Do you cover them completely? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
