ISO: pickles

I am searching for a pickle recipe that my husband remembers his mother making. It included a slice of bread in the pickling mixture. I somehow thik it must have been for fermentation. His mother was a Hungarian/Czech cook. I would love to surprise him with this recipe (and use up our cucumbers). Thanks in advance, Phyllis
