ISO: Prime Rib in a roaster oven

Has anyone used a Nesco 18 qt. roaster to cook a prime rib (rare) and had good results. Does the roast brown or need to be browned before cooking? I have to cook a approx. 12# Prime Rib and am looking for a cooler way than using the oven this summer.
