ISO: Question: Soft Bread Crumbs

Misc.
When a recipe calls for soft bread crubs, what exactly does that mean? The bread cumbs you buy in a round paper can are not soft or fresh are they? Aren't they called dry bread crumbs. If I use a slice of light bread, how do I measure it? Thanks Fuchsia
