ISO: Spanish Cookie called, Mantecow?

Misc.
I'm searching for a delicious cookie I'm told is a Spanish cookie/candy. It sounded like it was called a "Mantecow", could be mispelled. It has a licorce taste, like anise and requires a lg. amount of shortening. If anyone has heard of this or knows what I'm talking about pls. let me in on this mysterious cookie, it's truly wonderful. I had them at a get-together and wished I had asked for the recipe. .. . Thks!!
