ISO: Tips for Making Muffins

Misc.
I am new at muffin making. I have tried out several recipies and gotten some really tasty but dry results.( lots of healthy ingredients but then I have to put on tons of butter to get them down) I just read two "how to's" about muffins. One says to bake until a toothpick comes out clean and the other says to take the muffins out of the oven a bit before they are done. I would love to hear from some muffin experts out there. Also need some tips as to best way to freeze them. Hope you all have a nice day .
