Good meal for a rainy, sleeting type of day! We've been hot and humid for the past couple of days (87 degrees) but cold front coming on Sunday again for a day or two.

Thanks for posting your menu and recipes, Jackie - DH would love this one, but I'm forcing him to eat salmon tonight!

The day you described reminds me of our March days up in Northfield - DH and I had a small maple syrup evaporator and when the March timing was right, we'd start collecting the sap and start the boiling process on a warmish Saturday.

We'd stretch a big blue tarp overhead from tree to tree and bring lawn chairs out and set them up in the melting snow and hang out outside, stoking the pine logs into the firebox. The smell of the maple steam coming off that was intoxicating! Combined with the smell of the pine smoke - couldn't beat it.

It would be a grey, almost foggy day usually, and the snow would be melting everywhere and you'd have to jump the scattered mud puddles in the yard where the snow had already melted off. And at the end of the day, we'd have ourselves a gallon of the best maple syrup, then we'd grill kielbasa or hot dogs on the dying embers of the firebox. That's about the only thing I miss about winter in New England! Maple syrup!! HMMMMMM - Do you ever go out to South Face Farms when they're sugaring and get pancake breakfasts, Jackie??
