Dividing Perennials - Peonys

Misc.
Hi Sandra: About your Peonys - please don't touch them until this fall! Peonys HATE being disturbed, and their response is to not bloom for a year. The best time (I've found) is in the late fall, as long as the ground is still workable. Dig them up in a clump, and using a sharp knife cut apart the clumps. Remember never plant Peonys too deeply - just below the surface of the soil. Here in Vancouver, they are almost above the soil. For your winters, you will probably need to mulch them with straw, but remember to remove the straw as soon as frost danger is past, and the little red shoots are just showing! Hope this helps.
