Friday night dinner party
Misc.ADVERTISEMENT
My husband has finsihed his 3-week posting to the country hospital and we decided to celebrate it with some close friends... Here is our small dinner gathering from last night...
Since Chris (my hubby) has been sick of the meaty country cooking in the small town, we decided on a light Japnese seafood dinner. Therefore, we had fresh tuna and salmon sashimi (raw fish from our local trustworthy Japanese seafood shop) as entree, spicy it up with wasabi, Yamasa soy sauce and thinly sliced pickled ginger. (We like Yasama as it is lighter in taste compared to Kikoma (sp?) Then we had miso soup ( I made it with some thinly sliced Blue Eye fillet to be a bit different from the normal one.) Then we had Tariyaki chicken and fish (also used Blue Eye). I made "chicken" just in case our guests don't feel like an all seafood dinner... (The Teriyaki sauce was made by a dear friend's father, who owns a Japanese restaurant here in Mlebourne. We have been using his Teriyaki sauce for years. The commercially made ones just can't beat!) We also had stir-fried baby spinach. (I simply lightly fried it in olive oil and seasoned it as the way I cook other Chinese green vegetables...) Then we had a spicy prawn dish (which is not a Japanese recipe but it goes well with the Japanese food. I cooked it the way my mother normally does with large prawns. I think it's more a Szchuan style... I just thought that we needed a dish with some spice since most of our friends like spicy food. It turned out to be the most popular dish among all.) Of course, we all had some short grain rice to eat with all the dishes (as we Asians do!) We decided on creme caramel with chocolate tullies and a scoop of green tea ice cream for those who wants ice cream... (just to be different and to go with our Japanese theme...). But I think the creme caramel would have been better off with vanilla or chocolate ice cream... Therefore I only ate it with the tullies! (Chris had it with the green tea ice cream regardless... But from his facial expression, I know that there was something "funny"! ^_^ Well, there is always next time...
