Margie, Your pressure cooker should be turned down after the initial pressure builds up on high. If it fails to drop the pressure a bit on the medium heat and you don't have anymore options on temperature to play with, perhaps try putting the pot on a smaller element. That's what I do with a stove with only two elements working properly! By the way, where did you get your cooker???? I got mine at a yard sale and am having a very difficult time to find a new seal ring for mine.
