re: Recipe for Hoisin Sauce

Greetings; I am new to this site and have enjoyed what I have found here. My wife and I had the occasion recently to enjoy a meal at a Mongolian Grill in Ottawa Ontario. As a result we experienced a unique taste sensation which was stated to be "hoisin sauce". We were told one of the principle ingredients was sweet potato.

I have read the recipe posted by Judy/AZ on 1997-10-16 06:1123 and it does not contain sweet potatoes. I also purchased a bottle of what is purported to be hoisin sauce today and while it is very delicious it does not contain sweet potatoes either and is also not the same color or consistency as that which we had at the restaurant. It was the color of molasses and almost the consistency of chutney.(thicker than plum sauce).

I hope someone can help me and as i have never been to one of these message boards before I hope I will be able to find my way back here in the event that someone is kind enough to answer me. Thank you. Fred
