Pepper,

I also use a Black and Decker RC24. Since I am a Chinese, so I use a traditional method to measure and prepare the rice. (I have posted a msg about cooking rice in TKL. Just do a content search on "Boiled rice (Gohan" and you should find it.) As far as cooking time, the rice cooker should stop cooking when it's ready. Allow the rice to stay in the rice cooker for 10 minutes (at least) before switch it off. The open the lid and fluff the rice before serving. (Check my previous post.) I'd say that you can cook about 5 - 6 cups of rice for 6 people. But if your rice cooker is larger, you may cook a bit more in case any of your guests want it!

However, I also checked the instruction that came with this RC24 model rice cooker. Here are the things I didn't include in my previous post. It says:

"Using the measuring cup provided, measure out required quantity of rice. The measuring cup holds 150gm of rice and the cooker will cook up to 6 cupful at one time. One cup of uncooked rice makes about 3 cus pf cooked rice"

"Add one cup of water to each cup of rice. For example, for 4 cupful of uncooked rice, add 4 cup of water. Use cup provided with unit."

"Before cooking, wash the rice thoroughly under cold running water to remove excess starch. Use a colander of fine sieve for this -- DO NOT use the inner pan of the cooker as you man scratch or indent ot. If this occurs, improper contact with the heating plact may result in unsatisfatory cooking."

"For a softer fluffier rice, add a little more water. For a firmer, cruncher rice, add a little less water."

Before placing the innter pan into the cooer chech that the aheating plate and out side of the pan are cool, clean and dry. This is important to ensure proper contact between heating plate and inner pan."

"Dont not keep small amoutn of irce warm in the cooeker for exteneded periods. The minimum should be approximately 3 cups cooked rice (1 cup uncooked)."

"If you have cooked other ingredients with the rice, the time stored at "WARM" should be kept to a minimum to avoild unpleasant aromas"

"When cooking a small quantity of ice, take extra care to add the correct quantity of water to avoid boiling over."

"Stocks, made from stock cubes, may be used instead of water for steaming rice. The liquid level and procedure is the same."

Brown rice:
to cook brown rice in the Rice Cooker you must leave it to soak in cold water for at least an hour to soften. Drain and measure out the number of cups of rice and place in inner pan. Add 375ml of water for the first cup of rice addedde and 250ml for each addition cup of rice. Add 1 T. butter at this will improve the texture of the rice. Follow procedure for cooking white rice. When the cooker switchees to 'WARM' allow the rice to stand for 20-25 minutes."
