Recipe(tried): Chicken and Dumplings

I found this recipe on the internet.

Chicken and Dumplings

1 whole chicken (I use a fryer to cut the fat)
1 can chicken broth (I added this part as I do not use a hen which has more fat)
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
6 tablespoons vegetable shortening
2 eggs
1 cup milk (or a little less, don't get the dough too sticky.

Stew a whole chicken in enough water to cover Plus the can of broth til tender. Remove bones and skin. Discard.

While the chicken cools you can:
Place the flour in a large bowl. Stir in the salt to mix well. Make a well in the middle, Place shortening and egg in the well. Mix with a fork. Some of the flour will mix in. Add milk and stir to a soft dough.. Place half of dough on a floured surface. Roll or pat thin. It shoulld be only about 1/4". With a sharp knife , cut the dumplings into strips 2-3" wide, Then cut crosswise the same size to form thin, square dumplings. Stack them on a plate near your pot of broth on the stove. (This is important) Repeat with remaining dough. When the broth is boiling rapidly, drop thr dumplings into the broth one at a time. Reduce the heat and allow them to cook til they are tender. Before serving, I add the cooked chicken.
