Recipe(tried): Easy...Halloween Dirt Cake

Misc.

This cake is as easy as using a cake mix!!!
It's a favourite for my family every year!

Halloween Dirt Cake

Ingredients:

2 boxes of chocolate cake mix! (how easy can this get eh!)
1/2 cup sour cream or plain yoghurt
2 cans of chocolate fudge icing
1-2 cups of chocolate wafers crumbs or wafers
16 gummy worms, at least 2 inches or so.....
20 chocolate covered raisins

Directions:

A. The Baking:

1. Prepare cakes according to package directions, using ingredients boxes list.
2. Add sour cream to batter. Continue mixing until smooth.
3. Bake cake in oblong pan, 3/4 full of batter, according to oven temperature
and for time given on package. ( usually 350 for 40 or so min.)
4. Let cook; turn cake upside down, so that the cake bottom becomes the
the cake top.....it has a flatter surface....unless the top is okay.

B. The Decorating:

1. Frost cake top and sides with the cans of chocolate icing.....

(The next part is easy but messy...
you can use disposable gloves and make a little finger hole into the cake.....or you can make a little hole with a small sharp instrument....ie. a lobster fork, etc. before inserting each worm) This part is finger licking good and is all part of the halloween fun!

2. Take each gummy worm and insert halfway through both the icing and the cake, at random. The worms heads and parts of the body will stick out of the cake.

3. Don't forget to have gummy worms sticking out of the side of the cake too.
(This makes it look like worms sticking out of the ground....gross..and the kids love it.)

4. Next take your chocolate wafers..the round thin variety.... Place them on a board and with a rolling pin, crush them into fine crumbs...you can also use the food processor instead or... purchase the chocolate wafer crumbs.

5. Sprinkle the chocolate wafer crumbs on over the sides and top of the cake. This gives the "dirt" like appearance.
Be sure not to cover the gummy worms too much with the crumbs.

6. Place Chocolate covered raisins at random on top of the cake. Press into place. Tweezers or other object makes this an easy job working around the worms.

7. Your kids will ooooh and aaah and family and friends will say "how did you
ever bake those worms in the cake! This cake is so complicated looking but it's as easy as opening a cake mix box!!!

8. Happy Halloween!!!!

VARIATION: Use cupcakes, with Halloween muffin liners. Have children finish
the "dirt" part with the worms. They can eat them after it's made!
