Recipe: Old Fashioned Gingerbread

OLD FASHIONED GINGERBREAD

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup sour milk*
Nuts and raisins, if desired

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a large loaf pan.

Mix all ingredients together, put into prepared loaf pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for about 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on rack.

*To make sour milk, mix 1/4 tablespoon vinegar with 1/2 cup milk.

This recipe is over 100 years old.
