Recipe: Prize Coffee Cake (1956 Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook)

PRIZE COFFEE CAKE

3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup margarine, softened
1 large egg
1/2 cup skim milk
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
FOR THE TOPPING:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.

Mix together thoroughly sugar, margarine, egg. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Add milk. Stir together and pour into prepared pan.

Make topping by combining brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over cake batter.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 25 to 35 minutes.
