Bacon and Cheese Fingers
Serving Size : 12
2 cups all-purpose flour -- (500 mL)
1 tbsp baking powder -- (15 mL)
1 tsp salt -- (5 mL)
1/3 cup Crisco Shortening - Regular or Golden -- (75 mL)
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese -- (375 mL)
4 slices bacon -- cooked crisp and chopped (4 to 5)
1/3 cup chopped green onion -- (75 mL) optional
1 cup milk -- (250 mL)
1. Preheat oven to 425 F (220 C).
2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in mixing bowl.
3. Cut in Crisco Shortening with pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse meal.
4. Stir in cheese, bacon and onion.
5. Add milk all at once to dry ingredients, stirring with a fork to make a soft dough. Turn out onto floured surface and knead 8 to 10 times, until dough comes together in a ball.
6. Pat dough into an 8-inches (20 cm) square. Cut into half and cut each half into 6 equal rectangles. Place on ungreased baking sheet about 1-inch (2.5 cm) apart.
7. Bake at 425 F (220 C) for 12 to 15 minutes, or until light golden. Serve warm.
