What is happening is your plant is to wet it is fermenting and needs drying out a bit. You can get hydrogen peroxide 50% use it at 20 ml in a litre of water to help kill the moss etc. This will increase the plants enrgy as well as killing germs and increases the oxygen level which will help reduce the if not eliminate the smell.
