Recipe: Chocolate Chip Pie

Desserts - Pies and Tarts
CHOCOLATE CHIP PIE

2 large eggs
1/2 cup (1/4 lb) butter or margarine, melted and cooled
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons bourbon or water
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped Safeway Select walnut halves or whole almonds
1 (6 oz) package Safeway Select semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (9-inch) deep-dish pastry shell

Put milk and white chocolate in a metal bowl. Bring 1 inch of water to boiling in a 3-to 4-quart pan. Nest the bowl over the water; turn heat to low. Stir often until chocolate melts. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Let cool to room temperature.

Beat together eggs, butter, sugar, vanilla, and bourbon until well blended. Stir in flour, walnuts, and chocolate chips. Scrape batter into pastry shell.

Bake in a 350 degree F oven until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, about 1 hour.

Serve warm or cool. If made ahead, cool, cover, and store at room temperature up to a day.

Makes 8 servings
