Recipe(tried): Corn Chowder - help!!

Misc.
I made a vat of corn chowder per a co-worker's recipe. But, it's lacking taste...

1/2 lb. salt pork
3 cups onion
3 cups potatoes
2 tsp garlic
1 tsp celery salt
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
8 cups chicken stock
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup milk
salt & pepper to taste
3 cups corn

I can certainly taste the pepper but that's about it. I was thinking of adding a can of creamed corn. Any suggestions? I have a turkey roaster pan full of chowder but it totally lacks flavor - what a waste!!
