DATE NUT DREAM CAKE

1 package Betty Crocker SuperMoist yellow cake mix
1 (4-serving size) package coconut cream instant pudding and pie filling
1/2 cup firm margarine or butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
FOR THE FILLING:
1/2 cup Gold Medal all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 (8 ounces) package pitted dates, chopped
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches.
Mix cake mix (dry), pudding and pie filling (dry), margarine and 1 egg until crumbly. Press half of the crumb mixture in bottom of pan.
Bake 15 minutes.
Mix flour, brown sugar, water, vanilla, salt and 2 eggs until smooth. Stir in dates and walnuts. Spread over baked layer. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Makes 16 servings
