Recipe: Date Nut Dream Cake (like Betty Crocker Date Bars?)

DATE NUT DREAM CAKE



1 package Betty Crocker SuperMoist yellow cake mix
1 (4-serving size) package coconut cream instant pudding and pie filling
1/2 cup firm margarine or butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
FOR THE FILLING:
1/2 cup Gold Medal all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 (8 ounces) package pitted dates, chopped
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches.

Mix cake mix (dry), pudding and pie filling (dry), margarine and 1 egg until crumbly. Press half of the crumb mixture in bottom of pan.

Bake 15 minutes.

Mix flour, brown sugar, water, vanilla, salt and 2 eggs until smooth. Stir in dates and walnuts. Spread over baked layer. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture.

Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Makes 16 servings

Here is a recipe to try. Even though the name is Date Nut Cream Cake it has a base and crumbly topping like the bars. If you (or anyone else) try it, please let us know!
