Recipe: Dreamsicle Cake and Creamsicle Cake (like Applebee's)

Desserts - Cakes
DREAMSICLE CAKE

1 (18.25 oz) orange cake mix
1 (3 oz) orange favored gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1 (3.4 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. orange extract
1 (8 oz) tub thawed Cool Whip
white chocolate shavings

Prepare cake as directed on package and bake as directed in a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Poke holes in cake while still hot with a wood spoon handle.

Make gelatin with 1 cup boiling water, pour over cake while hot. Now cool cake completely.

Make vanilla pudding using the 1 cup milk, stir in extracts. Fold in Cool Whip. Spread this over cake. Sprinkle with white chocolate shavings.

Chill in refrigerator at least one hour before serving.

CREAMSICLE CAKE

Your favorite yellow or white cake recipe (box or from scratch)
1 (3 oz) box orange gelatin
1 1/2 cups water, divided use
1 (4 serving size) box vanilla pudding (instant or cook and serve, I have also used sugar free)
1 (8 oz) container Cool Whip (reg., lite, or fat free)

Make your cake following directions on box. Bake in a greased 9x13-inch pan.

While cake is baking, dissolve orange gelatin in 1 cup boiling water. Add 1/2 cup cold water to gelatin. Set aside.

When cake is done, remove from oven, cool on a rack for about 10 minutes.

Pokes holes all over cake with a meat fork, chop stick, skewer, or anything that will make holes in cake. Pour gelatin over cake, allowing it to run into holes. I use a large spoon to help carefully pour gelatin over cake. Put cake in refrigerator until gelatin is set.

While cake is cooling, make pudding according to directions on box. Spread pudding over cooled cake. Be sure to cool pudding before spreading on cake. If I use instant pudding, I make it about 5 minutes before spreading on cake. Spread Cool Whip over pudding. Store in refrigerator.

I have also had this cake with cut up pieces of orange slice candies mixed into the Cool Whip. Adds more orange flavor.
