Hello All,

The link I included in the "Just Like Grandma Used to Make" section of this

This is my late Mother-in-law's recipe. She was born in Hungary and came over
here by ship on October 29, 1929! This soup is the start to a traditional
Hungarian peasant Christmas Eve dinner. The rest of the meal consists of kolbacz
(Hungarian sausage), boiled potatoes and veggie of choice. We do this every
Christmas Eve in honor of Art's folks.

Grandma Grebetz's Hungarian Sauerkraut Soup

Combine in large pot:
1 sm. can sauerkraut w/juice
1-1/2 qts. cold water
1/2 onion, sliced fine
1 sm. can mushroom pcs & stems
1/2 tsp. whole peppercorns

Bring to a boil. Turn to simmer.
Cook 20-30 minutes.

Add:
1/2 C. raw rice

Bring to boil. Simmer 20 min. until rice is tender.

Melt in small pan:
1 tsp. butter (oleo)
Add: 1/4 tsp. sweet paprika
1 tsp. flour
1 C. cold water, slowly

Bring to a boil and pour slowly over soup. Bring to a slow boil, shut off heat
- serve. Serves 6-8
