Recipe: Here are a couple versions..

CHINESE CHEWS

Bottom:

1 c. melted butter
2 c. plain flour
1 c. confectioners sugar

Pat into bottom of 12 x 9 x 2-inch dish. Bake at 350 degrees
for 10 minutes. While this cooks, prepare top:
1 box brown sugar
4 eggs
3 Tbsp. plain flour
1 can coconut
1 c. chopped pecans
2 Tbsp. vanilla
Mix and put on top, bake 30 minutes at 325 degrees.CHINESE CHEWS

1/4 lb. butter
1 lb. light brown sugar
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans
1/2 c. shredded coconut
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. flour

Cream butter and brown sugar in a mixing bowl. Add eggs
and beat well. Stir in vanilla, coconut and pecans. Add flour
slowly and mix for one minute. Pour into a greased 9 x 9-inch
pan and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes (or until toothpick insert-
ed in center comes out clean). Cool, cut into small squares,
and roll into powdered sugar. Freezes well. Makes 2 dozen
small, bite-sized squares.
