Recipe: Hot Dog Vegetable Chowder

HOT DOG VEGETABLE CHOWDER

1 cup cubed potatoes
1 1/2 cups sliced carrots
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped celery
2 tablespoons chopped green pepper
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 lb hot dogs, diced
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup stewed tomatoes, heated*

Place potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, green pepper, water, salt, and pepper in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Simmer until vegetables are tender.

Melt butter in a large saucepan. Stir in flour and dry mustard. Add milk. Cook over medium heat until sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.

Add potato mixture, hot dogs, cheese, and Worcestershire sauce. Heat. Gradually add stewed tomatoes, stirring constantly.

*Make sure stewed tomatoes are heated. Cold or lukewarm tomatoes may curdle the soup.
