Recipe: Lachoy's Hamburger Chow Mein

Main Dishes - Assorted
LaCHOY'S HAMBURGER CHOW SUEY OR CHOW MEIN

1 1/4 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
2 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 cups diced celery
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup sliced water chestnuts (optional)
1 can (1 lb. 12 oz.) bean sprouts, drained
1 jar sliced mushrooms (optional)
2 tbsp. chopped pimientos (optional)

THICKENING:
3 tbsp. cold water
3 tbsp. cornstarch
1 1/2 tbsp. soy sauce
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
1 tbsp. brown gravy sauce

Cook beef and onion in butter until lightly browned.

Add salt, pepper, celery and water. Simmer 15 minutes.

Add remaining vegetables; heat until hot.

Combine thickening ingredients; add to meat mixture. Cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly.

Serve over hot cooked rice, chow mein noodles or hamburger ROLLS.

Can do ahead or in a crock pot. Freeze leftovers.
