Recipe(tried): Millionaire Cake (using cake mix, pudding mix, pineapple, and cream cheese)

MILLIONAIRE CAKE
1 package (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese
1 cup milk, divided use
1 (4-serving-size) package vanilla instant pudding mix
1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
2 envelopes Dream Whip, prepared (or enough Cool Whip or whipped cream to top cake)
Walnuts (for garnish)
Follow the instructions on cake-mix box preparing the cake batter. Bake as directed in a 13x9-inch baking pan. Cool in pan on wire rack.
Mix cream cheese and 1/2 cup of the milk over heat until smooth. Remove from heat. Add vanilla pudding mix and remaining 1/2 cup milk; mix well until it has thickened. Let cool.
Spread the cooled pudding mixture over cooled cake. Spread pineapple over the cake; then cover with the prepared Dream Whip or whipped topping. Garnish with walnuts. Refrigerate leftovers.
