Recipe: Old Fashioned Butter Cream Frosting (cooked, using cornstarch, 1960-70's)

1 cup milk
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 cup butter, softened
I cup Dixie Crystals (white granulated) sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cook milk and cornstarch over low heat until pasty. Remove from heat, cool and freeze.
Whip butter; add sugar and vanilla. Add milk and cornstarch mixture a little at a time, while whipping at highest speed.
Use to frost a cooled square cake.
