PETITE ORANGE CUPCAKES
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs beaten
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup buttermilk
Orange Sauce (recipe follows)
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs one at a time and beat after each addition. Add sifted dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk. Fill greased small cupcake pans with batter; filling cups half full.
Bake at 375 degrees F for about 12 minutes. When cupcakes are removed from oven immediately pour 1 teaspoon of sauce over each cake. Allow to cool in pans.

grated rind of 1 orange

Combine ingredients in a saucepan. Cook only until sugar dissolves.
