Recipe: Pillsbury Sugar Cube Castle - Fast and Easy version
Holidays, Celebrations We had the same idea. I will be making a sugar cube castle with my grandchildren that looks fast and simple. I found the recipe in a Pillsbury Holiday cookbook. The sugar cube castle is made only from sugar cubes, frosting and gumdrops for decoration. After complete, you can use with a votive candle in the middle. I found this in a Pillsbury Holiday Classic cookbook.
SUGAR CUBE CASTLE
-15x15-inch square heavy cardboard, covered with foil.
-4 (1-lb) boxes sugar cubes.
-1 can Pillsbury white decorator icing or ready to spread vanilla frosting supreme.
-decorative candies (shown using green & red gumdrops)
votive candle (optional)
Centered on cardboard, arrange single layer of sugar cbes (about 15 per side) to make a 8X8-inch square; leave 7-cube space for door. Continue to build layer by layer, using icing to hold cubes and layers together. As walls are built up, leave spaces for windows (they show with green/red gumdrops placed inside open window). Support tops of windows and doors with strips of heavyweight paper cut slightly longer than opening. Build towers in corners. Use additional cubes to make door and various other decorations on and around castle. Decorate with candes as desired. Place lighted candle in center. To store, cover completely with plastic wrap; store in cool dry place.
NOTE: The colored picture shows green/red gumdrops placed on top of castle tips. They also cluster green gumdrops outside front of castle to form little Christmas trees drizzled with icing. They also made a wreath which looks like they rolled a green gumdrop and cut out in wreath form and added a small touch of red gumdrop for the bow. the wreath is placed over the front door. Its really cute!
You can often find these Pillsbury leaflet cookbooks at antique stores. Good luck!
