Recipe(tried): Shoney's taste alike Cabbage Soup
SoupsDoris- Shoney's Cabbage and Beef Soup.. If you are looking for the soup with tomatoes, cabbage, ground beef etc. I have one I think you will like. I got it out of "Taste of Country" a few years ago and when I made it , thought it tasted like Shoney's Cabbage soup.
Cabbage and Ground Beef Soup
1 pound ground beef (Iuse extra lean)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp pepper
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 16 0z can kidney beans
1/2 head cabbage(medium size), chopped
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 - 3 cans water
4 beef boullion cubes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
My variation:
I always add one large chopped onion to the above ingredients.
Sometimes I also add 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
and a cut up potato or 1/2 cup mini pasta.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
In a 5 quart pot, brown the beef and add the rest of the ingredients, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer covered.
