Recipe(tried): Suggestions for what to order in a Lebanese restaurant for Jimmy, UK
Tips and Tricks - CookingHi Jimmy:-) The first thing that I want to say is don't be afraid to try Lebanese food. It is wonderful!!
Usually Lebanese restaurants offer kabobs, lamb and possibly chicken, with green peppers and onion, served with a rice pilaf. Lamb is a favorite meat so if you like it, I think you will find many things you will like.
Another very popular food is kibbeh. According to Paula Wolfert in her cookbook, The Cooking of the Eastern Mediterranean, "Kibbeh has been called the masterpiece of the Middle Eastern table. In it's most classical form (and there are innumerable variations), it is a 3-inch long football shaped brown food, with a crisp outer shell made of ground lamb kneaded with moistened bulgur, and a juicy interior or stuffing of cooked meat, spices and nuts. Good kibbeh is not bland or dry, but moist, well-seasoned, and light - a juicy combination of meat, nuts, and spices that can be baked, poached, steamed or fried."
On the menu, you may also find stuffed fruits and vegetables, especially eggplant and zucchini (courgettes), salads with tomato, onion and cheese such as Feta enchanced with oregano and thyme, as well as appetizers and desserts.
If you are still a little unsure about eating at a Lebanese restaurant, my advice would be to go in and ask to see their menu. I would assume that it will be translated into English since you are in England. That way you can see if some of their offerings appeal to you. We like Lebanese food very much and, I do think you will, too, if you try it.
