Recipe(tried): This is sooo silly - Ann Lander's Meat

Misc.
loaf

I have to tell the story first. Recently, many recipes have been posted for meatloaf. Betsy & Bob (Have I got that right?) have a picture of 50's Meatloaf on the website. Since the weather has gotten quite cool here, it sounded so good but DH isn't especially fond of it ( and is out of town) so , after searching the freezer for somehing I could thaw & microwave, I found nothing that sounded good. I wasn't in the mood for soup & a sandwich...meatloaf sounded really good. So I got in my car & went to the grocery store & bought ground sirloin. I made my version of Ann Lander's Meatloaf. She published it several times in the newspaper back in the 60's and 70's. Here is her recipe:

Ann Lander's Meat Loaf

2 lbs. ground round
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. breadcrumbs (I like to use Quick oatmeal)
3/4 c. red (:-)!) ketchup
1/2 c. warm water
1 pkg. Lipton's onion soup mix
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce

Mix thoroughly. Put into a loaf pan. Cover with 2 strips of bacon if you like that flavor. (I only used bacon once because I figure we don't really need the extra cholestoral oops ? sp.). Pour over all, one, 8 oz. can of tomato sauce. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees F. Serves 6.

Now for the silly part. When I was ready to add the ketchup, I realized that what I had in the refrigerator was the "new" green ketchup that Heinz now makes. I hesitated, then decided that I should use it rather than opening a new bottle of ketchup. I had bought it because I wanted to try it. It was on sale & I had a triple coupon for it. I had already had it on a hamburger & it tasted just like the red stuff. So, I mixed it in the meatloaf & it looked pretty green but, needless to say, it was way too late to do anything so I continued with the recipe & threw it in the oven. The end result tasted pretty good but was pretty unappetizing since it was very green:-)!! The moral of this story is to use regular ketchup if you are using it in a meatloaf. My question to my fellow TKL friends is: Should I freeze it to have another time when DH is out of town & or toss it? (:-)!!! A dilema or maybe it isn't! Hmmm :-) It's pretty sad that I have been cooking a pretty long time & produced this horrendous looking meatlaof:-)!!! I truly hope you all get a big chuckle out of this one:-)
