Recipe(tried): Turkey Burgers for Michelle

Main Dishes - Chicken, Poultry

Turkey Burgers
Makes 6 Burgers

1 cups Italian bread, crusts removed and torn into small pieces - you may sub. white bread
1/3 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup freshly grated pecorino romano cheese
1/4 cup fresh, flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped - or 1 tablespoon dried, crumbled parsley
teaspoon dried, crumbled oregano
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pounds ground turkey
Italian seasoned bread crumbs

1 large mixing bowl
1 9" x 13" baking pan
aluminum foil

2 cups marianara sauce
1 cup grated mozzerella cheese

Preheat oven to 400. Line a baking pan with foil and coat it with non-stick cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the milk and egg.
Add the bread pieces to the bowl with the milk and egg and mash it in. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes to soften.
Add the remaining ingredients to the bowl with the bread and mix well.
Form the meat mixture into 6 patties about 3" in diameter and 1" thick.
Empty the bread crumbs onto a flat plate and coat both sides of the patties with the bread crumbs.
Place them in the baking pan and spray with a light coating of cooking spray.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, turning them halfway through baking (15 minutes).
Remove from the oven and top with tomato sauce, grated cheese and a sprinkle of oregano.
Return burgers to the oven and bake until the cheese melts, about 5 minutes.

Note: You can accomplish all the above steps, such as tearing the bread and mixing in all the ingredients to form the meat mixture, by using a food processor, but be careful; a food processor is much more aggresive than human hands. Try making them manually the first time, unless you are an accomplished food processor user.
Also, you can cook the burgers in a non-stick frying pan which you've sprayed with Pam or cooking spray.
