Recipe: U.S.O. Cookies (1958)

U.S.O. COOKIES

1/2 cup butter, room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon flavoring
1 Tbsp. sugar mixed with 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg (for rolling)

Cream butter, sugar and egg. Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, vanilla and lemon flavoring. Cover and refrigerate overnight or several hours

Make into 40 balls. Roll in sugar/nutmeg mixture. Flatten slightly on lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 6-7 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE!
