WHOLE-WHEAT SESAME ROLLS
Makes 12 rolls (1 1/2 pound recipe)
1 cup water, at room temperature
4 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
4 teaspoons granulated sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons bread machine yeast
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons sesame seeds (for garnish)
Put water, oil, salt, all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, sugar and yeast in bread pan in the order recommended by the bread machine manufacturer. Insert pan into oven chamber. Select dough/manual cycle.
When cycle is complete, remove dough from pan to lightly floured surface. Knead in enough additional all-purpose flour to make a dough that is soft and smooth. Cover with tea towel and let rest for 15 minutes.
Roll dough into 12-inch long log. Cut log into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, flatten slightly and put on lightly greased baking sheet. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and then a tea towel. Let rise in warm draft-free place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
TO BAKE:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Brush each roll lightly with milk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 15 to 18 minutes or until light brown.
