Recipe: Winter party ideas!

Holidays, Celebrations
Not sure where you are but how about playing in the snow? Even if it's cold out once you get active and as long as all come dressed prepared it is lots of fun...cross country skiing or a snowmobile trip to a cabin or another persons house for hot chocoalate and warm snacks like chilli & buns etc., is something we love to do. Often these are pot luck events and others help bring the munchies. Sometimes we go out and have a bomb fire during our snowmobile trip and roast hot dogs and marshmellows if there isn't a house to go to. How about an outdoor skating party and a bomb fire?

Rent the local ice rink for some skating time or the curling rink for a round robin tournament and pot luck the lunch/dinner. If you think you'd like to have low-cal or low-fat snacks etc. make that a requirement to those bringing the food. Have everyone bring their favorite "healthy" dish and do a recipe swap after to share your new ideas. See what new and exciting low-fat/cal things you can come up with to share.

Rent a local hall and have a dance, that's a good way to get active. Do a pot luck meal with it.

How about Pictionary, Balderdash, Trivial Pursuit 2000 type games? Or a muder mystery game if you want to stay home and inside. Cards are fun too. OR Get some of the kids board games out and have team tournaments of Snakes and Ladders, The Game of Life, Monopoly, Sorry, Boggle (what ever you have)it'll take you back to your youth! Have some fun/silly prizes for the winning team members, like mock trophies, medals etc! You could have a couple of games going at the same time and rotate around the house as each team finishes up.

Scavenger hunts are fun. Make up a funny list of things that each team has to either go around town and find or make rules about where they can go...maybe they can't leave your yard. These promote team work and get everyone up and about. Have some fun rewards for the winners.

If everyone is worried about their weight etc. have nutritious snacks like veggies with low cal dips, hearty grain crackers and low fat cheeses, fruit salads, veggie salads without all the creamy dressings, nachos with loads of veggies and a little low fat cheese & sour cream, the salsa is low fat already.
Keep the deserts simple like cookies or squares instead of all kinds of whip cream and gooey stuff. But maybe everyone needs to splurge at the end of the month to reward themselves for a job well done on their "weight watching" efforts and they might love a rich gooey desert after depriving themselves for so long...

Winter can be sooo fun so get out and enjoy it!
