ISO: cooked caramel glaze or frosting made with buttermilk

This recipe my mother uses for a carrot cake. She used the recipe at Christmas and has placed in a vary safe place and now cannot find. You cook the mixture so long and then beat until the right consistency for the cake. The carrot cake is awesome. Any help will be appreciated.
