ISO: Date Bars rolled in powdered sugar

At Christmas my mother used to make a bar cookie/cake. It was a sponge cake with chopped dates and nuts. When cooled, she would roll them in powdered sugar. She called them "Hester's Date Bars". Does anyone have a recipe resembling these ingredients?
