ISO: HARD sugar cookie

Misc.
I am a guy who is baking 5" Valentine Cookies for a 3-5 year sunday school class. I hope to bring the baked cookies to the class and have the kids put frosting (canned cake stuff) on and sprinkles and whatever. If the cookie is too soft it will fall apart before they put any thing on them. What part of a recipe makes the cookie hard or is it just longer baking time. Has anyone a recipe I should use? Is the canned frosting a good idea. This is not to be a contest, just some fun!
Thanks
