ISO: Kolachky with yeast
Misc. When I was a child, my grammy made kolachky each holiday; freezing what was left to eat throughout the year. Her recipe died with her more than 30 years ago and try as I might, cannot find it. She was of German descent, but I believe found the recipe in the Chicago Tribune or Sun-Times. The kolachky was a chewy, bread type with a consistency like that of a bagel. I know it had yeast, but no cream cheese. The dough was rolled out, and then cut with a round cookie-cutter. Thumb indentions in the center, filled with apricot, strawberry, raspberry or pineapple preserves, then baked; no dough fold-overs. I'd say after baking, they were about 1" thick, and 2-3" across.
Does anyone know of what I speak? Does anyone have the recipe? I'd be for ever grateful. Judy-Lake Geneva
