ISO: Pesto Type Sauce

Recently, I attended a wedding where a wonderful first course was served. It was penne pasta topped with a pesto type sauce. In the sauce (that I could discern) was basil, parsley, chopped scallions, sauteed chopped onions, a few red pepper flakes, minced garlic, oil and I think, chicken broth. It tasted heavenly and was not a traditional pesto in the sense that it was not heavily laden with basil. There was no one dominant flavor--everything blended together perfectly. Does any one have a recipe for something comperable? (By the way, the name of the dish was Penne Mediterranean (SP?) I would appreciate any recipes or input that anyone may have. Thanks so much!!!
