ISO: Question about fruit cobbler other traditional American desserts

Misc.
We now have Brazilian produced rasberries and blackberries and I would like to make cobblers for my friends. Can I take my favorite scone recipe for the topping or does it need to be a dough with more liquid?

I am having some of my friends over for an afternoon tea of traditional American desserts. I plan to make apple pie, lemon meringue pie, pecan pie, a cheese cake, berry cobbler ( with good vanilla ice cream of course). Strawberries are not in yet here so shortcake is out. What else should I serve.
