ISO: substitutes for "silpats"

Today on Martha Stewart they made Gramm'y Chocolate Cookies and baked them on baking sheets lined with "silpats" a french nonstick baking mat. I was wondering if waxed paper would do the same thing, does anyone know?

I did get the recipe off her web site, but no alternatives were mentioned, just how one could buy the silpats for $24.00 a piece.
