re: Silpats, parchment or waxed paper

The other replies about parchment paper are correct. You can use waxed paper in the oven if it's entirely covered, such as when baking a cake, but not for cookies where part of the waxed paper will be exposed directly to the oven heat. Silpats are nice but not necessary; parchment does a great job and you don't even have to wash it off like you do re-usable liners.
