Thank You: Thanksgiving Ideas for Kristen, San Diego CA

Misc.
Kristen.

First of all, after reading your post, I sincerely believe you will do just fine! How well I remember cooking my first Thanksgiving dinner, but that is another story. It is wonderful that your roommate is helping.

I recommend you keep your meal simple and prepare most of your dishes ahead. Decide in advance what table cloth (if any), plates, platters, bowls, glasses, cups and silverware you will be using. You can even set these out the day before so you are not looking for them right before serving dinner. Make yourself lists. Include on your list how long each dish will need to be in the oven and then allow a bit of extra time. Many of us do not have ovens large enough to cook a turkey and all the side dishes at the same time. Adjustments have to be made for staggering what will go in the oven and when.

I personally think it is just fine to buy a precooked turkey. Many stores have these available these days. You could also buy pre-made stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, if you wish. In case you want to make your own, there are many great recipes that have already been posted here on the Recipe Link. Also, I am going to post a few make-ahead recipes for stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy.

Finally -- Relax. Do not fret if something on your list does not get done in time for dinner. Just say "oh well" and leave it off for this year. If any of your guests offer to help, say YES. Most of us like to help when are guests. I am anxious to hear what other RecipeLink folks have to say. And, keep us posted! Have Fun. Kel
