browned flour tip

I just read in The Vegetarian Times Thanksgiving Cookbook that browned flour has 1/2 the thickening capacity of white flour -thus we would have to use twice as much browned flour as white. Has anyone heard of this before or knows if it is true? Thanks. Seppo
