Cooking on TV for kids/teens

Misc.
Nicky - what type of local TV shows do you have in your area? Do any of them having cooking segments? If so, study them and work out something you can send them as a presentation/idea.

Have you won any awards for cooking or recipes? That always helps. If you go to the Blue Ribbon Contest message board and do a little scrolling around you will find some info on recipe cooking contest sites on line. Some have contests for kids (I don't know how you are) and some of the 'regular' one are open to all ages.

Check them out, read the rules carefully.

Once you win contests, you are often asked to appear on TV or radio, etc.

Some TV shows are a lot easier to be on then others. Some you have to have your recipe prepared several times to various stages- as everything is done live. Some shows have excent equipment - some are not very good at all (things like a card table, pan of water and no oven). These are all good things to check out before/if you are invited and accept. Some of the better ones will have someone to buy the ingredients, make sure utensils are there and prepare things to certain steps. This makes it much easier in a fast/stressful setting. Usually (but not always) you will be reimbursed for your ingredients.

Sometimes national appearances will be offered ... but it is often best to get some local or regional experience first.

Good luck - it can be a lot of fun.
